Physie is a unique type of dance built up from the foundations of ballet, jazz, contemporary, strength and floor exercises. Each year a group of choreographers collaborate and create a whole new syllabus to current songs that the girls and ladies alike can relate too. The syllabus is designed to be age appropriate and ables them to have a bit of a challenge throughout the year. The routines that form the syllabus vary from an upbeat Warmup and Dance, Ballet technique and Lyrical and finally strength and floor exercises.

Whether being completely new or very experienced at dance, Physie is really open to all anyone who wishes to become fit and have a laugh along the way. You may choose to come only once a week for the fun and fitness side or you may decide you or your daughter would like to come more than once to do the competitions towards the end of the year.

Physie is a great type of dance as it is affordable for everyone. There is no expensive shoes that are required and if you wish to compete there is only 1 leotard that can be worn for the entirety of the year. Dance helps you learn about your body, improves your posture and balance, it can help reduce stress levels, increases your self-esteem and confidence through mastering new skills.

Kate started Physie as an 8yr old and it wasn't too long before she had the Physie bug. In her very first year she made state finals and from there on she had nationals in her sight. Kate has been a national grand finalist 11 times, Qld state champion twice, with multiple placing’s in state and 4th place at the Opera House in 2009, 2014 and 2015.

Kate was so determined to become a better Physie girl that she asked to join ballet at the age of 10 to help her improve her work. It wasn't too long before she was hooked also doing ballet, contemporary, jazz, tap, lyrical, national dance and stretch classes.

At 11yrs old she went to a ballet performance at QPAC by Ballet Theare of Qld (a company for gifted students) she announced that she was going to audition. Only doing Ballet 1.5 years, incredibly Kate was accepted into the dance company and continued with the company for 4yrs. She danced in Pinocchio, Coppelia, Sleeping Princess and Don Quixote.

Kate also decided at one point that she would like to become more flexible and commence Sports Acrobatics, 6 months into this she obtained a gold medal for Queensland and a Bronze medal for Australia. The following year she gave this up as she was over commited and dancing 26 hours a week.

One would think that 7 days a week of training in dance would be enough for one person but, not for Kate who also was quite a successful cross country runner and sports runner. Incredibly also gaining school age champion trophies and running at Metropolitan East on numerous occassions too.

At 16yrs of Age Kate travelled to Cesena in Italy and danced at the Italian Grand Prix for dancers. It was an incredible trip and her group of 8, which she was the senior dancer of, returned home to Australia with Best Contemporary Dancers, Best Ballet, and Most promising Ballerina.

Kate from the age of 14 helped in class with younger ages at her dance school. A great training for her under her teachers guidance who was once a Prima Ballerina for the Australian Ballet, and other European Dance Companies.

Kate auditioned for dance colleges around Australia and was offered places at Brent Street, Victorian College of Art and Queensland University of Technology in Dance Performance 'training to become a professional dancer'. Kate took the offer at QUT but unfortunately was unable to finish as she became ill with 'Chronic Fatigue' which she still suffers from today.

Kate has not only taught for Physie, she has also been involved in teaching with Brisbane City Youth Ballet Company in their summer program. As well as teaching with the National Institute of Youth Performing Arts where she taught Jazz/Contemporary and choreographed for the Queensland program.

Kate brings to Physie a wide knowledge of dance and performance in many genres. As well as having studied the human body, muscles and stretching techniques.

Kate has five years of physie teaching behind her and several more as an assistant teacher. Whilst she is a very technical teacher who pushes each individual to achieve their very best, she has a great love for all her students, and delights in celebrating each little achievement along the way.

Kate's determination and knowledge is a great building block to reaching your very best in Physie. Come along on this journey and make your dreams become reality too.
